Sited between the rugged, and dramatic Hajar Mountains and the sandy Aqqa coastline, and under a strong Middle Eastern sun, the design of the Intercontinental Fujairah is an oasis of sorts, creating a welcoming and relaxing respite. The architecture is modern and fresh, allusive to the heritage of the area without being a pastiche of it, and is an imaginative solution applied to what was a complex and existing structure. The interior design also had to reimagine the existing conditions, creating new connections between the public spaces and the Arabian Sea beyond, that had not existed. Warm tones unite both the timber cladding and the stone detailing, transforming what was a dark, urban design into a light-filled, warm, refreshing space.
